Project works

These works show a different side of me. Here I try to bring to life all my fantasies and desires, devoting a lot of time to understanding myself and sharing my inner world with others.

Artist Statement

Oleg Savca is a Ukrainian photographer who moved to London in 2019 in order to continue developing his commercial and art photography practice. Oleg’s latest work demonstrates his abstract vision of the human body, in particular its naked form. His works aims to tell the story of beauty revealed in the body and how different meanings and concepts of photography can be recreated using different methods to allow for personal thoughts and observations of the artist.

Whispers Silhouette, 2023

This work was created to show the beauty and grace of the female body through photos that emphasise the silhouette. I was Inspired by the statues of ancient Greece, which epitomised the ideal of human proportion.

As a male photographer I am acutely aware of the thin line I am treading in work like this in the context of the history of art and the contemporary discourse surrounding male gaze and objectification of the female body. On the other hand, when working with women, on commissioned or personal projects, I listen to what they want to express, externalise and reflect in portraits that do not shy away from celebration of their bodies and the ideas of beauty.

Rather than showing intimate details that may be more overtly displaying their sexuality, in this work, I focus on the timeless and abstract, where the representation of the body is fused with the attempt to capture the models’ inner energy and emotions, connecting it to those timeless, ancient archetypes.

Shifts of movement, and colour, with the layer of water drops which simultaneously distract the gaze from the model, as well as symbolising the passing of time, emotions, and the elemental dimension of the body, emphasise this connection.

Grace in the name of Chess, 2021

With the development in art during many centuries the view on chess was changing and became more than just as a board game but as a model of relations between people and, moreover, as a model of social hierarchy and social processes.

With the process of analysing chess game from the point of view of beauty and grace, at the same time, taking into consideration the strategic intention, the female body became a fantastic option from my personal perspectives.

Chess and women are the two ideal worlds, which intertwine with each other and share the meaning. They share the intuition of the next move, the grace and beauty in shape of body and figure, the softness of line and the power of role in the social processes. Female body seems as a fantastic option to look at the chess from a strategic intention to represent beauty, grace, power and bringing light to this world.

LDN vs…, 2021

This project is the start of exploring London and express my creativity, looking from different perspectives. There are lots of different ideas I would like to implement and experiment. There is a saying that if you see London ones, it will always stay in your heart, if you lived in London a bit, you wouldn’t live somewhere else far from this grandiose city.

People and Things, 2020

When I first was reading the brief regarding this project I realized that this is the idea I always wanted to implement in my photography practice. My wish was and it is still with me to widen my knowledge in nude photography. I would say not exactly nude but by playing with light to take photos of body parts as smooth lines, a bit catchy and sensitive. This project gave me the opportunity to experiment and push myself into it.

Behind the mask, 2020

Based on my personal thoughts I assume that for me as a photographer it is very important to capture emotions, especially during memorable photo shoots, to make people feel uninhibited and free, convey the real emotions, create happy and fun-filled atmosphere. I realised that this has got similarity in clown’s performance. A clown has to be sensible to the situation, be flexible with every individual during the events, throw only positivity into the atmosphere, blow the ‘balloons of happiness and smile’. On the other side of the reality and day-to-day routine a photographer and a clown have their personal life and sensitive issues, which they have to cover with ‘a mask on the face’ in front of other people.
